One of the earliest known dinosaurs is Eoraptor lunensis, from the middle Triassic of South America. This little dinosaur was only about a meter long, but had several halmarks of the Dinosauria. Eoraptor was not the prime predator of its time; this was left to the giant rauisuchuians, like Saurosuchus.
