The Tractor Saga of "Black Cat"

After much painstaking work and busted knuckles, sweat, and luck, Black Cat came back to life! Only the day before the 1st Annual Tractor Pull & Antique Machine Show in Page, Black Cat roared back to life. Despite a shaky start to her new lease on life the day before, where she wasn't running on all four cylinders, and old, rotten tires, she put on quite the show!

Took a little drive through the desert with all the other tractor owners, and it performed quite well! Didn't even get stuck in any of the deep, dry sand!

Then, we said, "What the hell," and decided to go ahead and try to pull it. Cub + Me = 1890 lbs. Sled = 20,000 lbs. I still managed to pull it 4'8", 1st (and only) in my weight class!

My dad and I, two generations with Black Cat, after the pull!

Well, another day at the track, and another Page record set for under 2k lbs! Headed out on Sunday morning, and before the pulling got serious, I gave a few rides around.

First up was our friends' grandson, Aiden, and then Ben's friend, Jill. They had a blast! Then it was pullin' time!

I worked and worked, and got Black Cat to haul that sled 5'1"! I know the picture above is a little blurry, but my dad was pretty excited watching the pull.

It was great watching everyone pull, and I even lent a hand in getting the sled hooked and unhooked after a while. Great fun!

All too soon, it was over, and ribbons were given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each weight category. Being the only under 2k tractor in the pull, I got 1st for both days! I also get 30 points (15 from each 1st place) in the overall standings for the CCAT&MA. I have no idea if I'm in the lead, or way behind, because I don't know how many others have pulled smaller tractors. Oh well! Good fun anyway!

A special thanks to Jim and Judy Kitson, Gene Tucker, "Pops", and all the excellent folks at the Farmall Cub Message Board! It would still be frozen up in my garage if it wasn't for all you guys and gals!
